§ 02 / ABOUT

How the unscrambler works.

Type your rack of letters — 2 to 15 — and this tool returns every valid word that can be formed from some or all of them. Results are grouped by length and scored with Scrabble tile values. A ? acts as a blank tile and matches any letter.

// WHAT MAKES A RESULT "VALID"

  • ENABLE word list — 173,122 words, public domain, roughly 99% overlap with the tournament TWL list.
  • Uses each letter at most once — you can't reuse a letter unless you typed it twice.
  • Hover for definitions — tap any result to fetch the definition (from dictionaryapi.dev).

// USE CASES

Best fit for Scrabble, Words With Friends, crossword helpers, and word-puzzle sanity checks. For Wordle-style exact-position puzzles, you want more than a letter bag — that tool's on the roadmap. For exact-length only, see Anagram Solver.

§ 02 / FAQ

Questions. Answered.

How does the word unscrambler work?+
You type up to fifteen letters. We check every valid word in the dictionary that can be formed from those letters and return them grouped by length, longest first. Each word shows its standard Scrabble point value.
How do wildcards work?+
Type a ? to represent a single blank tile — it can stand in for any one letter. For example, CAT? can form CATS, CATE, CATV, and so on. You can use multiple blanks: C??T or ???ING both work. A multi-character * wildcard is planned for a future release.
Which dictionary do you use?+
ENABLE — a public-domain 173,000-word list. It is nearly identical to the TWL Scrabble dictionary. Licensed dictionaries (TWL, SOWPODS) are planned additions.
How are the points calculated?+
Standard Scrabble letter values — A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T, R = 1 point; D, G = 2; B, C, M, P = 3; F, H, V, W, Y = 4; K = 5; J, X = 8; Q, Z = 10. The badge does not include bonus squares or the 50-point bingo premium — those depend on your board position.
Are my searches saved or tracked?+
No. The dictionary loads once and lookups happen entirely in your browser. We log only aggregate analytics — no personal data, no query history tied to you.
Why did my letters return no words?+
Usually one of three things: an uncommon letter combination (try adding a vowel), a filter that is too strict (clear starts-with or ends-with), or very few letters (the minimum valid word is two letters).
